Drilling Programs Now Being Launched at Four of Company's Nevada Gold Projects

January 23, 2007

White Rock, B.C. – Carlin Gold Corporation (TSX Venture, CGD), ("Carlin" or the "Company") is pleased to announce progress on four of its Nevada exploration properties, where two drill programs have commenced and two additional drill programs are scheduled to begin in March.

An 8,000 foot Phase II drilling program has commenced on Carlin’s Pine Grove property, Lyon County, Nevada.  The Pine Grove Project, located in the Walker Lane Mineral Belt of western Nevada, is a joint venture with Romarco Minerals Inc (R:TSXV).  Romarco is earning a 60% interest in the project by completing expenditures of US$2MM prior to December 31, 2009, with an option to elect to earn an additional 10% interest (total 70%) by committing to take the project to final feasibility within three years of Romarco’s initial earn-in.

The property consists of 142 unpatented claims, and is located in the Pine Grove mining district, which has estimated historic production of approximately 290,000 ounces gold equivalent (includes silver).  The property includes the old Rockland mine, which produced an estimated 50,000 ounces of gold between 1870 and the late 1930’s.  Pine Grove has excellent potential for discovery of multiple bonanza-grade veins associated with a Tertiary-age bimodal volcanic suite.  Exploration conducted by previous owners of the property from 1987 to 1999 resulted in several promising gold-bearing intercepts, including 100 ft. of 1.291 g/t (incl. 10 ft. of 6.125 g/t), 30 ft. of 2.816 g/t (incl. 5 ft. of 9.20 g/t) on the eastern portion of the property.  Two miles west, in the vicinity of the historic Rockland Mine, previous drill intercepts include 130 ft. of 1.16 g/t (incl. 10 ft. of 8.56 g/t).

Romarco completed a 4 hole, 5,425 foot Phase 1 drill program in early 2006, to test two vein targets on the east side of the property.  Assay results include the following:

PG-32
10 feet (965-975) @ 5.025 g/t Au
360 feet (1080-1440ft) @ 0.959 g/t Au

PG-33
600 feet (760-1360) @ 0.402 g/t Au

Romarco’s Phase II drilling program will follow-up on these encouraging Phase I results.  Additional targets also remain to be evaluated around the Rockland Mine, located approximately 1.5 miles east of the initial Romarco holes.   Romarco has applied for a drilling permit in this area, and has a firm commitment with Carlin to complete 3,500 feet of drilling.

The 44 claim Dome-HiHo property, Lander County, Nevada is located along the northern Battle Mountain Trend, within the Lone Tree – Marigold – Trenton Canyon subtrend of gold deposits.  The target is an intrusive-related sedimentary rock-hosted gold deposit, occurring either along north-south range front structures or along northwest-trending, dike-filled faults that cut a variety of lithologies of the Havallah Formation, which constitutes the upper plate of the Golconda Thrust Fault.

A four hole Phase II drilling program began January 7th at Dome-HiHo.  The program is being conducted by joint venture partner Piedmont Mining Company (OTC:PIED.PK), who is earning a 51% interest in the property by spending a total $2MM by March 1, 2010. In November 2005, Piedmont completed a Phase I drilling program on the northern portion of a 7,000 foot long north-northwest trending structural zone.  This program encountered anomalous gold to 2.43 g/t (5 ft interval).  Piedmont then decided to concentrate its Phase II drilling efforts along a 3,000 foot strike length on the southern, Mill Creek portion of the zone.  A limited, previous exploration program in this area encountered gold values to 23 g/t in dump samples from shallow workings.

The Company plans on completing 10-12,000 feet of drilling at two of its other Nevada exploration properties, Golconda Summit (Humboldt County) and Iowa Canyon (Lander County). Drill permits have been received for both programs, and drilling is expected to begin in March.

Golconda Summit is located in the northern Edna Mountains, approximately 20 miles south-southwest of Barrick’s Getchell Mine, and on the north end of the Battle Mountain-Eureka Mineral Trend.  Nearby gold operations include the Pinson Mine project (Barrick), Getchell Mine (Barrick), Twin Creeks Mine (Newmont), Lone Tree complex (Newmont), and Marigold complex (Glamis (now Goldcorp)).

The Golconda Summit property is underlain by a thrust faulted Paleozoic sedimentary section that constitutes preferred host rocks in the nearby Getchell gold belt and Lone Tree Mine area.  Trenches excavated by a previous operator reportedly encountered highly anomalous gold concentrations associated with local strongly altered structural zones in the upper plate of the Golconda Thrust Fault, suggesting leakage from a possible deeper high-grade gold mineralized zone hosted in more favorable lower plate lithologies.  Most of the previous exploration drilling consisted of shallow, vertical drill holes which were terminated short of the more favorable lower plate host rocks.  Even so, several holes contained anomalous gold mineralization including 35ft. @ 0.110 oz/t Au.

Carlin's drill targeting program was initiated in March 2006, and has included geologic mapping, rock chip sampling, soil sampling and trenching.   The trenching program consisted of 1,860 linear feet excavated in four separate trenches.

SIGNIFICANT TRENCH RESULTS

Trench Interval (ft) Length (ft/m) Grade (g/t Au)
           T1 75 – 110 35/10.7 3.64
                   (including 80-85) 5/1.5 17.00
           T2 90 – 105 15/4.6 5.10
                   (including 90-95) 5/1.5 14.00
                   450 – 470 20/6.1 1.36
                   520 – 600 80/24.4 4.90
                   (including 530-555) 25/7.6 12.25

           T4 540 – 630 90/27.4 0.30
           T4 20 – 25 5/1.5 2.04

A Phase I drill program is planned to follow up on the encouraging trench results, and also to evaluate other targets.   Two favorable lithologic zones are being targeted below the anomalous gold zones encountered in the trenches:

1. The calcareous sandstone of the upper part of the Edna Mountain Formation, which is projected to occur immediately below the Golconda Thrust Fault.  This unit hosts a portion of the nearby Lone Tree deposit, currently being mined by Newmont.

2. The Antler Limestone, which occurs below the base of the overlying Edna Mountain Formation.  The stratigraphic equivalent of this unit is the primary host rock at the original  Chimney Creek deposit, located 28 miles to the northwest (over 1.2 million ounces of gold mined by Gold Fields prior to consolidation into Twin Creeks operation).

The Iowa Canyon property ("ICP") is located 57 miles south of Battle Mountain, and 29 miles south-southwest of Barrick’s Cortez Hills deposit, along the northwest flank of the Toiyabe Range.  The geologic setting comprises a thick section of Paleozoic clastic and carbonate rocks, intruded by Cretaceous granodiorite and unconformably overlain by Oligocene volcanic rocks.  The Paleozoic sequence includes a tectonic window in the Roberts Mountain Thrust Fault.  The window consists of the Roberts Mountain and Hanson Creek Formations, which are favorable host rocks for Carlin-style gold mineralization.

Several limited exploration programs have been conducted in the past by previous operators, and have targeted both sedimentary-hosted (Carlin-style) mineralization hosted in the Paleozoic lithologies, and epithermal mineralization hosted in the Tertiary volcanic rocks.  The best hole to date (100 ft. @ 0.022 opt Au) is within the Oligocene volcanic rocks at Chem Hill.

The primary target is a prominent northwest trending structural corridor which extends 8,000 feet from the range out into the alluvial covered pediment.  This target is between the silicified mineralized rocks on Chem Hill and the weakly mineralized (up to 675 ppb Au) carbonate Paleozoic rocks.
